Tulip Experience Amsterdam was founded in late 2019 by bulb grower Simon Pennings.
This was partly a response to increasing tourism in the Flower Bulb Region and the growing pressure on the bulb fields (the production fields) there.
Every year, Simon and other growers, experienced significant damage to their tulip fields. He also noticed that visitors had a strong desire to not only take beautiful photographs, but also to understand the story behind the tulip and the work bulb growing involves. And with that, the idea of the Tulip Experience was born.
Rising tourist numbers in the Flower Bulb Region and contemporary selfie culture have impacted the vulnerable bulb fields in recent years.
Visitors to the region often carelessly wander around the fields, looking for the perfect shot. They are often unaware that the fields are where growers cultivate their valuable tulips for bulb production. The fields end up destroyed when people jump across rows or even walk straight across fields! We want to inform visitors about this and provide them with the opportunity to take the perfect shot without damaging the valuable fields. Our specially designed selfie/show garden offers endless possibilities for taking beautiful photos among hundreds of thousands of tulips or from one of the special photo opportunity points.
It’s our mission and passion to share knowledge about tulip cultivation in the form of a unique setting that combines education and experience, all with the aim of increasing awareness of the biggest Dutch icon. Because we are proud of the bulb-growing trade, the Flower Bulb Region and tulips!
The family business behind Tulip Experience Amsterdam has passionately been cultivating tulips for three generations and now wants to share that magic with you.
Wim Pennings started the tulip nursery in 1951, and today, it is run by his son Simon. Tulip Experience Amsterdam is led by granddaughter Sylvia, with support from her parents Simon & Hetty. Even granddaughters Sophie, Lucy and Alice help out as well as great-granddaughters Lola and Frenkie!
